Access to Higher Education Diploma (Engineering) – Level 3

Modules will include:

• Electrical Principles
• Capacitors and Magnetism
• Mechanics
• Mechanical Power Transmission Systems
• Framework and Structures
• Environmental Chemistry
• Advanced Maths
• Academic Study Techniques
• Plus other modules to support your development into Higher Education Courses in Engineering.

September – June. Students will study 2 days per week, between 9am – 5pm.

Due to the nature of the programme you must have achieved a grade 4 (C) GCSE Maths, English and Science, or through a diagnostic test at interview.

Applicants must be aged 19+.

You will be assessed by various methods which are designed to prepare you for the assessment methods you will experience at University.

Methods will include examinations, presentations, written assignments, practical assignments and a design project.

The Access to Higher Education Diploma (Engineering) will provide you with a range of transferable skills allowing you to progress onto a range of our Higher Education courses.

Past students have progressed onto the Higher National Certificate in Engineering at Middlesbrough College; pathways include Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Instrumentation Operations Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or Mechanical Engineering. After completing the Higher National Certificate students can progress onto the Higher National Diploma and then complete the BEng (Hons) Engineering top-up degree.

Successful completion of the course will enable you to apply for an engineering degree programme at a university in the UK. This includes, but is not limited to, chemical/process engineering, mechanical engineering, and electrical engineering.

The College Careers Service is available to all our students. We can help you when deciding which course or option you wish to take. During your course we ensure you develop employability skills and gain relevant experience. We provide information, advice and support when completing your course and progressing to work or going into higher education. When applying for university we can provide support with the UCAS application and Student Finance.

You may be required to pay fees depending on your residency status, educational background and personal circumstances.

Advanced Learner Loan: If you are aged 19-23 and this is not your first full Level 3 qualification or you are aged 24 or over on the start date of the course, you will have to pay fees. However, you may qualify for an Advanced Learner Loan. You can apply for an Advanced Learning Loan from Student Finance England (SFE) to fund all or part of the fee.
