“During my final year at school I realised that I wanted to do a course that gave me the opportunity to do more practical, hands-on learning. I also knew I wanted a career in engineering and as a family friend was studying for an apprenticeship at the time it seemed like the ideal route. I attended a few open events at local colleges to see what opportunities were available.

“After attending an open event at TTE I realised they had the course for me, as it was more practical based than any other courses and would give me the employment skills I needed to hit the ground running. During my first year I didn’t have an apprenticeship sponsor so I attended the Electrical Engineering programme at TTE three days a week.

“This was spread across classroom and workshop training. With the help of TTE, in my second year I got an interview with Quorn’s and was offered an Electrician Technician Apprenticeship. I felt proud and knew my hard work and commitment at TTE had paid off. I’m now in my second year and attend TTE five days a week.

“Three days to complete my Level 2 Electrical Engineering course and on the other two days, I follow a training programme that is tailored to Quorn’s on-site requirements. My third year will be spent full time at Quorn.

“My aim is to secure full time employment once I’ve completed my apprenticeship at Quorn. I’d also like to do a University degree in Electrical Engineering. TTE is an amazing place to learn. It’s not a large training centre so you get to know the people, trainers and facilities quickly. The trainers are really knowledgeable, friendly and approachable so I never feel uncomfortable about asking questions or for help.”

And as they’ve worked in industry for many years, I also really appreciate and value their advice and guidance.”
