“My Dad was definitely a key factor when it came to my career decisions. He’s an Offshore Electrician and a strong believer in the benefits of apprenticeships and how they can help people get the career they really want.

“Once I’d completed and passed all of my GCSE’s, I applied for a two year programme at TTE in Electrical Engineering. My programme consisted of three days per week at TTE where we were taught both the practical and theoretical skills associated with electrical maintenance.

“This included electrical safety, basic hand tools, testing and inspection, cable size and types, relays and contractors, PLCs, AC and DC and electrical drawings. Whilst at TTE not only did I complete my BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma in Engineering, I was also awarded the Franchise Electrical Engineering Learner of the Year award, sponsored by Redcar and Cleveland College, for my relentless determination and tenacity! With the help from TTE, I finally secured an apprenticeship at Quorn.

“On completion of my apprenticeship, I was offered full-time employment with Quorn. Since then I’ve worked across the whole site, from the plants to the offices doing electrical maintenance, insulations and breakdown. During this time, I’ve also achieved an Electrical Engineering HNC.”
